Axé is a musical genre created in Bahia in the 80s during the popular manifestations of Carnival in Salvador, mixing Pernambuco frevo, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, reggae, merengue, forró, maracatu and other Afro-Latin rhythms.
The rhythm became famous throughout Brazil with bands like Chiclete com Banana, Banda Cheiro de Amor, Margareth Menezes, Daniela Mercury, Asa de Águia, Banda Eva, among many other names.
